WowAddons v1.5: What’s New?

8 Mins

I’m genuinely excited about WowAddons v1.5

You all know WowAddons – your trusted companion for offering product options on the WooCommerce platform.

As a WooCommerce store owner, it is quite an essential plugin, especially if you wish to create a custom shopping experience for buyers.

If you don’t know what WowAddons is, kindly check out this post. If you’re an e-commerce store owner, you’ll definitely see the merit of this plugin.

But today’s discussion is about WowAddons v1.5. Here’s what you can expect in the new version

  1. The ability to clean up temporary uploads
  2. Use custom fonts
  3. Create custom content with the content block
  4. Show custom content as a pop-up

Some of the things may seem a bit technical. So, I’ll try to explain them with examples. Some examples may highlight real-world examples.

Some may match your use case as well. If that’s the case, then you’ll see the appeal.

Here’s What’s New in WowAddons v1.5

Let me break down the new features you’ll find in version 1.5 of WowAddons

Let me be clear here, WowAddons has a lot more to offer than these new updates (it’s quite obvious). Maybe, just maybe, you haven’t checked all the features yet. Follow the link below and you’ll find everything you need to know about WowAddons:

Back to the updates….

Update 01: Cleaning up uploaded files

With the latest version of WowAddons, you get the ability to clean up temporarily uploaded files from the plugin. You can do the following things here:

If a user uploads a file and doesn’t complete the purchase, then you can clean it up. You simply have to set the number of days. After the set number of days, the temporary files will be deleted from the plugin.

Here’s an example:

WowAddons v1.5 - Uploaded files Clean up

Let’s say you want temporary uploads to be deleted from the plugin after 10 days. All you have to do is enter ‘10’ in the field, and you’re done. After 10 days, the temporary uploads will be deleted from the plugin.

The same is true for 2 more types of uploads – ‘order placed’ and ‘order completed’. So, if a user places an order with a file upload, you can delete those files after a certain number of days.

The same is true for completed order uploads.

Please note that the number of days you set is recurring. So, if the number of days is set to ‘10’, after every 10 days, the temporarily uploaded files will get deleted from the WowAddons plugin.

Update 02: The Use of Custom Fonts

The newest release of WowAddons will have the ability to create and use custom fonts and select them.

I’m going to explain this with an example. This may reflect a ‘real-world’ scenario for some. I will be using this example to help you understand the other updates as well.

Printing Custom Label on a Bag Pack

Some businesses offer backpack customization. They allow users to pick out the color, type, and any textual customizations they may need.

The custom font system of WowAddons can help out here. Here’s how I did it:

  • I went to the ‘fonts’ setting of the WowAddons plugin
  • Uploaded a custom font from Google Fonts and saved the settings
Upload Custom Fonts to WowAddons

Note that you can only upload a single variation of a font at a time. For example, I uploaded the regular ‘PlayFair Display’ font. Also, font uploads only support WOFF, WOFF2, and TTF formats.

Once this was done, I went ahead to complete the next steps:

  • Create a new option from the ‘Option Lists’
  • Selected a specific product – for this example, I’m selecting a backpack
  • Select the font picker block

I will be making changes inside the font picker block. As an example, I will select the custom font I set up previously and add a custom fee of 2.99 for printing a custom label on the backpack.

Enabling the custom font style

I will also offer the user to share the custom message they want to upload. And I want it to appear as the font I uploaded. To do that, I will:

  • Select the text area addon block
  • Give it a title like “Provide Custom Label text” (Just an example – I’m sure you could do a lot better).
  • Go back to the font picker > ‘Apply font to fields’
  • Then select the text area field named ‘Provide Custom Label Text’
  • Save the changes
Apply font picker to applied fields

So, what do you think will happen at the front end?

The buyer will be able to select specific fonts and share the message he/she want as labels. Here’s what it looks like on the front end:

Do explore the font picker documentation if you want to learn how it all works. You’ll get a clear idea of how to connect everything together.

Update 03: The Content Block

Before I begin, I want to make one thing clear:

If you’re just starting out and want to create a simple yet easy-to-read product description section, you won’t need any plugin other than WowAddons, to be honest. Unless you wish to offer special discounts (you’ll need WowRevenue for that), you’re well off with just WowAddons.

Here’s what I’m saying:

You can pretty much do anything with this block – for example, I created a simple table showcasing the special features of the backpack I want to sell.

I did it by:

WowAddons v1.5: What's New?
  • Selecting the content addon
  • creating a table, and
  • adding my content for it
  • finally, saving it…

It’s super easy to use – and quite intuitive if you ask me. If you created any tables in the docs in the past, this will be quite easy for you.

Here’s how it looks on the front-end. Granted, it’s not like the ‘most beautiful thing you ever saw’. But it’s more than enough to cover product information in a way that’s effective – like giving a summary of the things a user is getting…

Content Table on the Front-end

Pretty efficient if you ask me. Read the doc to explore how you can use this addon.

Update 04: The Pop-up Addon

I would classify the pop-up block as an ‘updated’ content editor block. You have all the functionalities of the content editor block.

However, on the front-end, it appears as a pop-up. I hope you got the point.

WowAddons Pop-up Live View

So I found a very clever use for it (actually, many clothing stores use it already). You could easily use it as a size chart. I actually did that in this example.

If you want to learn how to use it, do check out the pop-up addon documentation.

Please note that there have been other quality-of-life updates, like bug fixes and performance optimizations, as well. I would recommend that you update to the latest version immediately to observe these changes.

That being said, I’m proud to announce that the BFCM deal prices for WowAddons are now live. I would recommend that you give it:

What’s Next for WowAddons?

Good question. Here’s what you can expect:

  • Bug fixes and quality of life updates
  • New addon blocks
  • Extra option templates
  • And more…

Stay tuned for new updates at our WowAddons product page.

WowAddons v1.5: An Important Milestone

The version 1.5 update is an important milestone for a couple of reasons.

One, it makes the package whole – using the 20+ addons, you can create all types of extra options for your WooCommerce stores. You don’t need too many plugins unless you’re going to extremes.

Two, as I’m writing this, both Black Friday and Cyber Monday are upon us. Since WowRevenue works pretty well with WowAddons, you may want to consider using both in unison – that is, of course, if you’re willing.

That’s pretty much it.
