The Special Actions option lets you control what WowShipping does after a shipping rate tier matches its conditions.
WowShipping evaluates rate tiers from top to bottom. For each tier, it first checks the conditions. If they match, WowShipping takes that tier’s rate and then applies its Special Action.
If the conditions do not match, the entire tier is skipped, including its rate and Special Action.
Special Actions are useful when multiple rate tiers can match the same cart and you need to control whether WowShipping should continue evaluating more tiers, stop at a matching tier, or hide the entire shipping method.
Available Special Actions
- Pass – Takes the matching tier’s rate and continues evaluating the next tiers.
- Stop – Takes the matching tier’s rate and stops evaluating any tiers below it. WowShipping then calculates the final shipping cost using the rates collected so far and your selected rate calculation method.
- Hide – Hides the entire shipping method when the tier’s conditions match. No lower tiers are evaluated.
Example
Suppose you create these rate tiers:
| Condition | Shipping Cost | Action |
|---|---|---|
| Cart subtotal is €99 or less | €10 | Pass |
| Cart subtotal is €100 or more | €15 | Pass |
| Cart quantity is 3 or more | €2 | Pass |
Assume the rate calculation method is set to Sum, and a customer’s cart has a subtotal above €100 with at least 3 items.
The first tier does not match, so WowShipping skips it.
The second tier matches and adds €15. Because its action is Pass, WowShipping continues to the third tier.
The third tier also matches and adds €2, resulting in a final shipping cost of €17.
Now change the second tier’s action from Pass to Stop.
The second tier still adds €15, but WowShipping stops there and does not evaluate the third tier. The final shipping cost becomes €15.
If you change the second tier’s action to Hide, the same matching condition causes the entire shipping method to be hidden from checkout.
When to Use Each Action
Use Pass when WowShipping should continue evaluating lower rate tiers after a match.
Use Stop when a matching tier should prevent any lower tiers from being evaluated.
Use Hide when matching a specific condition should make the entire shipping method unavailable at checkout.
Tip: Tier order is important when using Special Actions. WowShipping evaluates tiers from top to bottom, and a matching Stop or Hide action can prevent any tiers below it from being evaluated.
