The Handling Fee/Surcharge in WowShipping lets you add an additional charge to orders. It can be used to cover packaging, processing, or other operational costs.
How to Set Up Handling Fee in WowShipping
To add a handling fee, follow these steps:
- Go to the Additional Settings section.
- Enable the Handling Fee by turning on the toggle.
- Choose the fee type between Fixed Amount or Percentage.
- Enter the fee value based on your selection.
- Select how it applies:
- Entire Order – The fee is applied once to the whole order, regardless of the number of items.
- Per Item – The fee is applied to each item in the cart and multiplied by the total quantity. For example, if the fee is $2 and the customer adds 3 items, the total handling fee will be $6 ($2 × 3).

- Set the tax option: Taxable or Non-taxable.
- If Taxable, the fee will follow your store’s tax configuration.
Handling Fee/Surcharge Scenario
Here’s how a per-item handling fee works in practice:
- Type: Fixed Amount
- Amount: $1
- Apply To: Per Item
- Taxable: None
With this setup, a $1 fee is added per item alongside the shipping cost. For example, if a customer purchases 4 items, the total handling fee will be $4.
Tip: Use handling fees carefully, as extra charges can affect customer decisions. Provide a clear explanation at checkout to maintain transparency.
